TWO GLENDALE HOSPITALS RANKED AMONG THE TOP 10 IN ARIZONA
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and Abrazo Arrowhead Campus secured spots on Top 10 Hospitals in Arizona for 2025
Two Glendale-based hospitals, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, have been recognized among the top 10 hospitals in Arizona for 2025, according to the latest rankings by AZ Big Media. This distinction underscores their commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the community.
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, located at 5555 W Thunderbird Road, is a 890,000-square-foot acute-care facility that has served the Northwest Valley for over 25 years. The hospital recently completed a $290 million expansion, adding a new 200-bed patient tower, state-of-the-art surgical suites, and a Level I Adult Trauma Center designation for patients aged 15 and older. This expansion enhances the hospital's ability to provide comprehensive trauma care, reducing the need for patient transfers and ensuring timely, life-saving treatment.
"Being named one of the top 10 hospitals in Arizona is an incredible honor and a reflection of the dedication and compassion our entire team brings to work each day," said Debbie Flores, chief executive officer of Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. "As a proud part of the Glendale community, we recognize the deep responsibility we have to the families who place their trust in us. This recognition only strengthens our commitment to delivering exceptional care and supporting the health and well-being of every patient we serve."
Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, located at 18701 N 67th Avenue, is a 229-bed acute care teaching hospital known for its women's and infant services, cardiovascular and neurosciences, and surgical specialties. In 2023, the hospital unveiled a $14 million expansion of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), increasing capacity from 19 to 33 beds. This expansion enables the hospital to provide complex care for premature and high-risk infants, supporting over 3,500 births annually. Additionally, in February, Abrazo Arrowhead opened a state-of-the-art, $7 million, neuro-interventional bi-plane suite, to provide its patients immediate access to life-saving stroke interventions, and complex neuro-endovascular procedures.
“The expansion of our NICU reaffirms our commitment to staying at the forefront of medical advancements and to providing the highest quality in-patient care. Additionally, we are extremely excited about our new neuro-interventional suite. We are passionate about providing top-notch, state-of-the-art brain and spine care to the Northwest Valley as we grow and expand along with our community,” said Stephen Garner, CEO, Abrazo Arrowhead Campus.
Both hospitals have also achieved national recognition for their specialized care. Abrazo Arrowhead Campus has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care and has received the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus award. Additionally, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center's recent trauma center designation further solidifies its role as a critical care provider in the region.
These accolades reflect the hospitals' dedication to providing high-quality care and their ongoing efforts to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Glendale community.
Hospitals in Glendale are home to a dedicated workforce of 14,000 healthcare professionals who provide vital medical care to the community.
“Congratulations to Banner and Abrazo,” exclaimed Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers. “Quality healthcare facilities are vital to vibrant communities, and we are thankful to have two of the best right here in Glendale.”
