GLENDALE, Ariz. – At 12:12 p.m. Wednesday (5/7), Glendale police and fire units responded to a call of a drowning at a residence in the 4600 block of west Mission Lane. Upon arrival, they found neighbors performing CPR on 15 month-old Tyler Bratcher. Firefighters took over life-saving efforts and took Tyler to a local hospital. Despite these efforts, Tyler passed away.
Glendale police detectives conducted a death investigation and determined that Tyler wandered into the back yard through an open rear door and was later found in the pool. Investigators learned that the homeowner, who is Tyler’s great-grandmother, left the house early in the morning, leaving the rear door open for pet access. Tyler’s mother and uncle were sleeping when the homeowner left the residence. There was no fence or other barrier between the house and the pool.
The report containing all the information learned by the detectives will be forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review. That office will determine whether any criminal charges will be filed.
