Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers has declared Tuesday, August 17, 2021 Inaugural Data Excellence Day. The mayor issued the proclamation to honor the dedication and hard work that went into Glendale earning 2021 What Works Cities Certification, the national standard of excellence in data-driven city governance. Glendale earned certification at the silver level and is one of only 16 new cities nationwide to earn certification this year. Director of Organizational Performance, Khala Stanfield, and Business Intelligence and Analytics Officer, Jenny Durda, accepted the proclamation on behalf of staff during a ceremony at city hall.

After the ceremony, Mayor Weiers took time  to personally thank staff for their dedication to improving the use of data to better serve Glendale residents, businesses and employees.
“I could not be more proud of our Glendale staff in earning this certification,” said Mayor Weiers. “But this is about more than just a plaque to put on the wall, it signifies all of the hard work Glendale has put into using data to deliver fiscally responsible services to our residents.”

Among the City’s many accomplishments, Glendale was specifically recognized for the development and use of the GlendaleOne service portal and for providing new ways to reach and deliver service through the Community Action Office (CAP).

What Works Cities is a national initiative by Bloomberg Philanthropies to help cities use data and evidence to more effectively tackle their most pressing challenges.
