Volunteer Position Description
Position Title : Requested Items Volunteer
Responsible To: Circulation Volunteer Coordinator and Glendale Public Library staff.
Job Summary: Pull materials requested by patrons from the library shelves.
Essential Functions: Duties include location of items requested by patrons and staff. Volunteer will work from a computer generated report which lists items on request, items which are claimed returned by patrons but not found by staff, items set to trace which may be shelved in the wrong area and items requested by staff for review and/or label changes. Perform other circulation duties as assigned.
Time Required: Minimum of 2 hours per week. Days and times volunteered are dependent on library needs and availability of volunteer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to organize materials in alphabetical and numerical order. Knowledge of the Dewey decimal system is needed. Must be able to read and understand reports. A strong knowledge of the library layout is necessary. Ability to interact with patrons and work effectively and cooperatively with library staff is necessary.
Working Conditions: Volunteers will perform their duties in the circulation workroom with staff and other volunteers and also on the public floor of the library.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum age for volunteering in this position is 16. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform lifting and shelving of materials while standing, squatting and bending. Volunteer must be able to push book carts full of heavy books the distance of the library several times per shift.
