The library is home to stories about superheroes, pirates, princesses, and Jedi, but LIBCON West is where they come to life! The Glendale Public Library is proud to present its fifth annual comic convention in Murphy Park, the heart of downtown Glendale. Come geek out with all your favorite characters at this free, all-ages celebration of all things pop culture on Saturday, December 4, from 12-5 p.m., hosted by the Velma Teague Library at 7010 N 58th Ave.

Stroll the park paths to encounter cosplay groups, comic book creators, dozens of vendors, live performances, games, and crafts for kids. Shop for original art, engage in a Nerf battle, pose for a photo with Imperial Stormtroopers, enjoy a Disney princess storytime, and dance along to live music. Feel free to dress up or just come as you are!

Performances in the E. Lowell Rogers Amphitheatre throughout the day include something for everyone. Feel the Force and live your Jedi (or Sith) dreams during interactive exhibitions by lightsaber choreography group Syndicate Saber. Laugh along with the pirate shenanigans of the DREAD Fleet. Hum along with your favorite pop culture tunes, played by the students of the Phoenix Conservatory of Music. Dance along with Bi Essential Movement’s Kpop class. Then, be sure not to miss the grand finale: rock 'n' roll interpretations of beloved video game music in a live performance by nationally renowned geek rock icons the Minibosses!

“We're located right in the middle of the historic shopping and dining district of downtown Glendale," says Administrative Librarian Greg Kinder. "Some of the downtown shops are participating with special discounts." The Historic Downtown Glendale Merchants Association’s booth will also provide free gift wrapping for your holiday purchases. Free parking is available both on the surrounding streets and in two nearby parking structures.

Remember, the fun doesn’t end when LIBCON West does! Following the convention, participants are encouraged to experience the holiday lights, delicious restaurants, seasonal shopping, and festive entertainment in the downtown area.
