Join the city of Glendale Water Services Department for their free Green Living Class Series via Zoom. Tune into classes on a wide range of water and energy-efficient topics taught by local experts. Building Healthy Desert Soils

Wednesday | August 25 | 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Bring your desert soils back to life by using stormwater, plant trimmings, compost, and more. Discover how to assess soil type, understand how it is layered, and its infiltration capacity. Charlie Alcorn, Program Coordinator with Watershed Management Group, will discuss how these practices are a great way to have a more productive and healthy urban landscape!

 

Desert Hardy and Resilient Landscapes

Protect your landscape investment! Is your landscape equipped to thrive in our region’s climate? Andrew Pirrone, Water Conservation Coordinator for the city of Goodyear, will showcase practical methods to increase the resiliency and health of your landscape while still providing shade, color, and texture.

 

Landscaping for Small Spaces

Wednesday | September 15 | 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Are you working with limited outdoor space? Create a desert-friendly landscape with interesting, yet appropriate, plants for those small spaces. Kirti Mathura, garden author, has over 17 years of experience working at the Desert Botanical Garden and is currently the Program Coordinator for Smartscape at the University of Arizona’s Cooperative Extension.

 

Save Money, Energy, and Water at Home

The city of Glendale Water Services Department and SRP are teaming up to provide residents with easy tips on how to save money, energy, and water at home while promoting comfort and livability. Bonus: Glendale residents that respond to an online survey after the webinar will be entered in a random drawing for a chance to win great efficient prizes for the home!

 

Bird-Friendly Backyard Habitats

Wednesday | October 13 | 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Grow native plants in your own landscape that will attract birds and other pollinators year-round. Jim Consolloy, an experienced gardener with Sonoran Audubon Society, will share a diversity of low-water-use plants to help you create an inviting wildlife sanctuary at home.

 

Growing Fruit Trees in the Desert

Wednesday | October 27 | 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Our unique and extreme climate in central Arizona makes growing fruit trees a challenge. Come learn how to care for citrus trees and a variety of other fruit trees that can thrive here locally. Jonathan Manning, a certified arborist, will share his 30 years of experience growing fruit trees in the Sonoran Desert.
