A Heroes’ Welcome: A Squad of Superheroes Helps Glendale Open New Library
After much excitement and anticipation, the Heroes Regional Park Library, Glendale’s most western branch, is opening May 18. There is no better way to celebrate this monumental event than with a superhero-studded party. It is named “Heroes” because the community voted for that name to honor all the heroes in our community and the new space will feature displays recognizing heroes. West Valley residents of all ages are invited to join in the fun with their favorite comic and movie heroes, along with real-life heroes including teachers and first responders.

Glendale Public Library Services
Expand to Western Glendale
The construction of Glendale’s fourth and newest public library branch, located on the grounds of Heroes Regional Park near 83rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road, officially commenced on June 11, 2018. The new
sq. ft. library is projected to serve 80,000 visitors annually and bring an array of branch library services and the latest innovations in library technologies to the western portion of our city’s municipality.
Facility amenities include dedicated children’s and "teen-only" patio areas, Wi-Fi capability, a dividable multi-purpose programming room, a study room, the expansion of the existing parking lot area to accommodate library visitors, the installation of enhanced outdoor area lighting and library monument signage near the entrance of Heroes Regional Park.
Construction of the $3.76 million project is scheduled to be complete in March 2019 and the library is slated to be fully equipped, operational and open to the public by Spring 2019.
Partial funding for the Heroes Regional Park Library was provided through a grant in the amount of $43,000 from State Grants in Aid and from Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records through a federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant award of $18,600.

Library staff and members of the Library Advisory Board presented the findings and recommendations of the Western Area Branch Library Site Feasibility Study, along with final conceptual plans and a review of public input, for two proposed sites evaluated for the future construction of a new branch library in western Glendale during a special Council workshop in April 2016.
Following the presentation and discussion, City Council directed the study team to advance to the next phase of project development and initiate the formal design process for a new
sq. ft. library facility on the grounds of Heroes Regional Park near 83rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
Moving forward, the City of Glendale contracted with DFDG Architecture (formerly Dick & Fritsche Design Group) to prepare architectural plans and perform design services for the future branch library in December 2017.
Six months later, Danson Construction, LLC, was issued notice to proceed with the construction of Glendale’s fourth and newest library on June 11, 2018. Structural and site improvements (library building, parking lot expansion, utilities and site amenities) are slated to be complete in March 2019. The new Heroes Regional Park Library is currently scheduled to be equipped, operational and open to the public in late Spring 2019.
