October is Energy Awareness Month

October is National Energy Awareness Month. Here are Five Simple Ways to Save Energy around Your House Year-Round:

  • Replace your Showerhead. Cut energy and water costs by replacing your showerhead with a high-efficiency showerhead. Shower Better! Look for the WaterSense label when shopping for water-efficient showerheads.
  • Stop Vampire Energy. Many household appliances and devices still use energy even if they aren’t on just by being plugged into an electrical outlet. Reduce energy waste by plugging devices into a power strip that you can turn off when not in use.
  • Use a Programmable Thermostat. To help lower costs on your utility bill, use a programmable thermostat to reduce heating and cooling costs when you’re away from your home.
  • Switch to Energy Efficiency Lighting. You can save up to $50 in energy costs per year by switching 15 traditional incandescent bulbs to energy-saving lightbulbs, such as CFLs and LEDs.
  • Plant a Shade Tree. With cooler temperatures, fall is a great time to plant a shade tree. APS and SRP offer free shade tree workshops and trees for their residential customers.
