The City of Glendale Pretreatment Progam is responsible for implementing the Commercial Inspection Program and conducting on-site inspections of commercial facilities that discharge wastewater into the City sewer system. The goal of this program is to protect the integrity and structure of our sewer system and, protect the health and safety of the public and City personnel.

How is this accomplished?

Inspections of commercial businesses shall include, but is not limited to, eating establishments, auto repair shops, commercial laundries, and car washes. Oil and grease interceptor inspections are conducted at restaurants, cafeterias, cafes, bars, clubs, hotels, hospitals, school kitchens, and other establishments where grease may be introduced into the sewer system in a quantity that may hinder treatment or cause line blockage or stoppage. Automotive repair facility inspections evaluate oil/water separator maintenance and operations. This is to ensure proper handling of oily waste and the prohibition of waste containing flammable materials or other harmful waste into the sewer system. Commercial laundries and car wash facilities include the inspection of lint traps and/or sand trap maintenance.

Why is this necessary?

Commercial establishment inspections help to ensure compliance with City Code interceptor. Installation requirements  verify adequate maintenance and helps identify parties responsible for collection system problems and blockages. It is also an opportunity to communicate with and educate our business community about the needs and issues within our water and sewer system. Inadequate or improper maintenance of interceptors causes costly and unnecessary collection system maintenance that can easily be avoided with properly maintained equipment.
