About Glendale's Traffic Management
Fast Facts:
- Glendale currently operates a traffic management center (TMC) that serves as the nerve center for the traffic signal system.
- From the TMC, city staff can monitor traffic at 15 intersections via closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The intersections monitored include 10 along 59th Avenue and five at the West Gate City Center site.
- Additionally, staff can remotely communicate with 20 signalized intersections, thus allowing for expedited response times to resident concerns over signal timing.
- The city operates and maintains eight Smart Zone trailers that include wireless communications equipment, a CCTV camera and a dynamic message sign. These trailers are used primarily for event traffic management at the Jobing.com Arena.
Phase three, which includes the area around Jobing.com Arena and the Cardinals Stadium, is currently under design and will begin construction in the fall of 2006.
It will build upon the existing and planned system, and will include one mile of fiber optic cable, two additional CCTV cameras and the first permanent dynamic message sign.
