Transportation - Street Lights - Street Light Monitoring System

Glendale, AZ was the first city in the nation to have street light monitoring devices installed on each of the city’s 19,000 street lights. City Council approved this installation in April 2007 and the project was completed in January 2008. Since then, the number of monitored street lights has steadily increased to 19,582 in May 2011. During this time, the number of malfunctioning street lights dropped from about 1,000 to less than 100 (half of one percent). The city’s effective partnership with ROAM (Remote Operations Asset Management) and the street light program’s excellent customer service demonstrate how the City of Glendale strives to meet and exceed resident expectations. For additional information about Glendale’s experience with the ROAM monitoring system, please contact the street light program manager at 623-930-2940.
