Project Purpose: This project will build upon the City’s current intelligent transportation system (ITS) to enhance the traffic management capabilities in the City’s center. This expansion will allow City staff to remotely view traffic conditions via closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the signalized intersections on Peoria Avenue. Based on the information observed, changes to the traffic signals can be made via a computer system to reduce the traffic flow impacts of planned and unplanned events. Further, installation of four new electronic message signs (two on Glendale Avenue and two on 59th Avenue) will be used to provide drivers real-time information on traffic conditions, such as roadway restrictions or parking information, leading into downtown Glendale.
Project Cost: The total estimated cost for design and construction of this project is $1.2 million, with approximately 65% coming from federal funds.
