Science of Chocolate Extravaganza
Friday, February 7, 2014: 5 - 10 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014: noon to 5 p.m. Location: At the Glendale Chocolate Affaire event in Historic Downtown – south of Glendale Avenue, between 55th and 58th Avenues Description: Science has never been so delicious! Visit a demonstration site for the many sciences around chocolate. Experiments may include chocolate and your health, the business of chocolate, the flavor sensation involved in chocolate, and more. Topics: Arts/Culture, Bioscience, Health & Medicine, Entrepreneurship & Business / All ages.
Feb. 21, 2014 - 4-7 p.m. Glendale Community College SciTech Festival Location: GCC Main Campus, 6000 W. Olive Ave.
Description: Activities, competitions, make-and-takes, and exciting demonstrations from the science and technical departments at Glendale Community College's Main Campus will all comprise a great AZSciTech Festival for your learning and enjoyment. Current and prospective students, parents and kids, and the community are welcome to enjoy a special day on the GCC Campus. Events include the following: chemical demonstrations and explosions, geology explorations, physics demonstrations, tours of the nursing simulations lab, learn about the Mars rover Curiosity while visiting with a NASA scientist, fun contests and more. March 13, 2014 - 4-7 p.m. Medical Mystery Tour Presented by Midwestern University Description: Event will include rotating workshops offering families and teens/adults the opportunity to tour Midwestern University simulation labs and participate in hands-on medical activities. Activities will last about 30 minutes each and will include a "CSI" investigation of teeth marks in the dental simulation lab; a medical case scenario with a high-tech mannequin like those on Grey's Anatomy; a vision training workshop demonstrating techniques for improving hand-eye coordination, peripheral vision, and more; and many other interactive science and medicine labs. Participants can choose to go to any or all workshops in whatever order they choose, and will interact with MWU faculty, staff, and students to experience the latest in health career education. Midwestern University is a graduate degree-granting institution specializing in the health sciences with campuses in Illinois and Arizona. The Arizona campus, located on a 156-acre site in Glendale, is home to over 2,900 students and six colleges: the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, the College of Pharmacy-Glendale, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Dental Medicine-Arizona, the Arizona College of Optometry, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. Description: West-MEC is a public school district dedicated to innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE). Join us for a morning of STEM exploration at the West-MEC Aviation Facility. Tour the airplane hangar for a look at airplanes and aircraft equipment. Create paper airplanes for an air glider challenge on site. Let your creativity soar in a LEGOs building workshop, check out live demos of VEX robotics technology, and participate in other exciting STEM activities.
