GLENDALE COLLECTS CELL PHONES IN HONOR OF AMERICA RECYCLES DAY Time to toss those old cell phones for a good cause! The city of Glendale is celebrating America Recycles Day, Nov. 15, with a special cell phone-recycling program for the month of November that will help to put phones in the hands of domestic violence victims.
The public is encouraged to drop old cell phones off at Jobing.com Arena at Gate 3 on the Northwest corner of the building, any of Glendale’s three public libraries, Glendale Visitor Center or Qwest at Westgate City Center in Glendale.
After the cell phones are collected, the West Valley Advocacy Center will arrange for the phones to be recycled. Once the cell phones are refurbished, the phones will become available for victims of stalking and domestic violence.
It is important to note that the city of Glendale does not recycle cell phones through its home recycling program.
According to the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association, cell phones are replaced approximately after 18-months of use. It was estimated that 1350 million phones were disposed in 2007. With toxic elements found in cell phones, it is important to keep cell phones out of landfills.
America Recycles Day was created to raise awareness of recycling and promote the environmental benefits of recycling.
