On August 31, 2004, joggers in the area of 6900 W. Ocotillo discovered the body of 16-year-old Esteban Canales, who was found shot to death in the park. Initial reports were that Esteban possibly went to meet some friends the evening before his death but never returned home. Several leads in this case are currently being investigated and evidence examined. Information on the death of Esteban is also being sought from the community to further assist in this case.
