Background

The Planning Department provides technical and clerical staff support services to the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and the Historic Preservation Commission.

• Planning Commission
  Duties: Analyzes, reviews, and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding land use applications and development related issues, including rezoning, General Plan amendments, conditional use permits, and annexations.
  Membership: At least five but no more than seven members appointed by the City Council for two-year terms.
  Meets: Meets the first Thursday of the month with the workshops starting at 6:00 and the meeting at 7:00. Regular meetings are held in the City Council Chamber and workshop meetings in Room 2A. Meetings are televised on Glendale Channel 11.

• Board of Adjustment
  Duties: Holds public hearings on request for variances and appeals to city administrative decisions regarding zoning. and interpretations.
  Membership: At least five but not more than seven members appointed by the City Council for two-year terms.
  Meets: Second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in Room B3.

• Historic Preservation Commission
  Duties: Maintains the city’s Historic Preservation Plan. Advises the Planning Commission and the City Council on historic preservation issues, including the designation of properties to the Glendale Historic Property Register, prepares National Register Nominations, and assists in building community awareness and support for historic preservation.
  Membership: Seven members appointed by the City Council for two-year terms: five of who shall be selected from disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archaeology, or related historic preservation disciplines.
  Meets: Fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in Room 2A of the City Administration Building.
