Parks and Recreation - Neighborhood Park Watch Program |
Glendale Parks & Recreation
Eagle Eye Neighborhood
Park Watch Program
Mission Statement
The Eagle Eye Neighborhood Park Watch Program is an effort to prevent crime and vandalism to our playground and park equipment, to alleviate suspicious activities in our parks, and to promote community involvement.
To report crime or vandalism in our city's parks, please call the Glendale Park Ranger at 623-695-3004. If a crime is in progress, please call the police department at 623-930-3000.
The Benefits of the Eagle Eye Program
- Create awareness of activities in public parks.
- Instill strong park, recreation and conservation values in citizens and encourage them to be responsible park users.
- Develop a sense of ownership for neighborhood parks, recreation areas and facilities among Glendale residents.
- Empower citizens who use parks and park facilities, thereby making them feel comfortable, safe and proud.
- Decrease incidents of vandalism, crime, misuse of park properties and related costs.
- Increase public awareness, cooperation and communication among law enforcement, citizens, community organizations, park districts, recreation and conservation agencies.
Seemore the Eagle
Seemore is the mascot who represents the program. With Seemore’s assistance, children and adults are taught about the importance of proper behavior in parks and how to take care of park property and equipment.
Program Successes
The vandalism in city parks and recreation facilities has shown a steady decrease after rolling out this pro-active program. Our statistics show that hours spend on vandalism in parks has been reduced by nearly 110 percent, and the cost of repairs in the parks has declined from
$64 to $34. The number of occurrences of vandalism in parks has also decreased nearly 30 percent. Criminal activity in the city’s parks has cost approximately $150,000 annually in past years.
