Parking – NEW!  A new summer overflow parking lot area at Heroes Regional Park is now open. The parking is provided as a convenience to patrons of the splash pad and basketball court area.

  • Archery Range NEW! Using a combination of community donations and city funding, a new 46,875 square foot improved area (125 by 375 feet) that will be used as a practice and competition site for area archers opened in October 2016.

  • Basketball Court – NEW!  Come check out the NEW Glendale's Got Game basketball court surface updated in March 2017.

  • 83rd Avenue Improvements – Street improvements are planned for the east side of 83rd Avenue, south of Berridge Lane to the intersection with the Grand Canal (approximately 1/8 mile). Planned improvements would be new curb, gutter, sidewalk/pedestrian path, landscaping and streetlights. These improvements are integral to the planned phasing of the park and provide an additional walking/riding path for park patrons. The City will begin design work in March of this year and construction is anticipated to begin the Fall of 2017.

  • New Parks Maintenance Facility –A portion of the new parks maintenance yard will be constructed adjacent to the existing maintenance enclosure at the east end of the park. The estimated 2500 square foot area print is identified in the planned will be part of the phasing of Heroes Park and will significantly reduce the time needed to transport needed parks equipment and staff for this area of the City (it will result in less travel time and allow more maintenance to occur at Heroes Regional Park, the Youth Sports Complex, the Grand Canal Linear Park, and several neighborhood parks located in the general area).

  • New After School and Summer Recreation Programs – After review and discussion with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission earlier this year, a decision was made to use the vacant square foot X-court building as a free, drop-in and after-school recreation site for area youth. As a result, later this summer, the non-profit Wheels in Motion organization will begin serving area youth with a supervised location at which they will be exposed to education and mentoring through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs. Learn More.

  • New Western Area Branch Library – At the April 5, 2016 public Council Workshop, the City Council provided direction to move forward with design work to build a new, 7500 – 8000 square foot western area branch library. The intent is provide full services to the area and be open 40 hours a week. The first phase will include 50+ paved parking spaces for library and park patrons. It will be located directly across the street from the existing recreation center and splash pad site. If all tracks, construction would take place in FY 17-18 (July 1, 2017 – to June 30, 2018 time frame). Learn More about this pending amenity.

  • Water Recharge Site – At the December 8, 2015 evening meeting, the City Council approved a $186,354 contract to update a 2010 study that identified Heroes Regional Park as a potential location for a new water recharge facility. An important component to the original vision of the Heroes Regional park site will be the eventual construction of an urban lake system. The study should be completed later this year. More complete engineering options and designs would be prepared after the study is completed. When constructed, this project would be identified as a Community Fishing Program through a partnership with Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Additional planned amenities for the park will be constructed in future phases, when funding becomes available. See below for the rendering of the completed park.

  • Multi-Generational Recreation Center
  • Aquatics Complex
  • Soccer, softball and little league baseball fields
  • Urban Fishing Lake
  • Dog Park
  • Multi-Use Trails
