Summer Drop-In Sites

Two free drop-in recreation sites will be offered providing children in kindergarten through eighth grade a place to participate in games and activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, beginning Tuesday, June 11, at the O’Neil Recreation Center, 6448 W. Missouri Ave., and Rose Lane Recreation Center, 5003 W. Marlette Ave.  No preregistration is required; register onsite.

Adventures in History - A short summer camp

June 10-13, Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon
Sahuaro Ranch Park Historical Area, 9802 N. 59th Ave.
Youth, ages 6 to 10, can experience history through games, activities and crafts at the Adventures in History Camp. Activities take place inside the Ranch’s historic buildings and throughout the historic area. Daily themes include “Dirty Work,” “Movin’ & Grovin’” and “Old Time Technology.” $35 (non-resident $42). Foothills 360 Summer Program

Sign up begins April 1 for this popular, supervised summer program for kids ages 5-11. Enjoy the rock wall, swimming (once a week), art projects and active games. Choose a 3-day or 5-day program. Space is limited and available on a first-registered, first-served basis. Registration forms available March 25.
          3-Day: $71/week (non-resident $88/week).
          5-Day: $105/week (non-residents $140/week).

Licensed Glendale Recreation After School Program (G.R.A.S.P.)

The Glendale Recreation After School Program (G.R.A.S.P.) provides children, ages 5-13, with a safe, fun place to go right after school. The program is based at licensed recreation sites, offering children various activities such as arts and crafts, homework help, board games, group games and educational projects, featuring special guests such as D.A.R.E. police officers and environmental professionals. The focus of G.R.A.S.P. is the total well being of each and every child, while the children experience the benefits of a fun, safe and social environment with positive mentorship from caring, adult staff.

G.R.A.S.P. is available at the following locations:

  • Desert Mirage Elem. School, 8605 W. Maryland Ave.
  • Sahuaro Ranch Elem. School, 10401 N. 63rd Ave.
  • Canyon Elem. School, 5490 W. Paradise Ln
  • Kachina Elem. School, 5304 W. Crocus Dr.
  • Pioneer Elem. School, 6305 W. Port Au Prince Ln.

There are three programming options:  a before-school program held 6:30 a.m. to school starting, an after-school program held after school until 6 p.m. and both the before- and after-school program.  The before-school program and the before- and after-school program are available only at Canyon, Sahuaro Ranch and Pioneer sites.  All the locations provide the after-school option and are also available during early release days.  Select locations are available during extended school breaks and intersessions such as fall break. G.R.A.S.P. is licensed and regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services, it qualifies for Arizona Department of Security (DES) assistance, and those interested should contact their DES caseworker.
