Important Tips and Resources for Water Safety
The Glendale Fire Department offers these safety tips to keep everyone safe around water:
Pool Safety
- Never leave children alone around water.
- Adults should not swim alone.
- Fence your pool and latch your gate.

- Secure doors, gates and pet doors that are leading to the pool area.
- Remove items that can be used to climb a pool fence such as chairs, tables and ladders.
- Empty inflatable pools when not in use, and store pool toys away from the pool.
- Know where your child is at all times.
- Teach children how to swim. Click here for information on swimming lessons from Glendale’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Around the House Water Safety
- Avoid standing water. A child can drown in 1 to 2 inches of water!
- Never leave a child alone in the bathtub.
- Empty all buckets and pails.
- Close toilet lids.
CPR and CCC Education Opportunities
CPR: Traditional, mouth-to-mouth ventilation is recommended for drowning incidents, according to the American Heart Association. Arizona Red Cross and American Heart Association offer CPR certification.
CCC: Residents can learn CCC (continuous chest compression) CPR with the Glendale Fire Department in a free monthly class. For more information, please visit www.azshare.gov. Click here to view an online video and learn more about this hand-only form of CPR.
