Foothills Recreation & Aquatic Center makes its grand debut
Climb walls, float around the lazy river, run a mile or two in a cool air-conditioned climate and top your day off by shooting a few hoops or stepping in to a step aerobics class. Working out in Glendale just got a little easier thanks to the opening of the new Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center.
An Overview
The Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center features a 69,800-square-foot recreation building and an outdoor aquatics area. The recreation building features:
- a gymnasium
- classrooms
- culinary arts teaching kitchen
- exercise studios
- childcare room
- game room
- lounge
- jogging/walking track
- rock climbing wall
- racquetball courts
- fitness area
- multipurpose room with a catering kitchen
- The aquatics area features a heated lap and diving pool, lazy river, two slides, leisure pool with aquatic playground and a concessions area
Go, Go, Go, is made of etched and laminated mouth-blown glass imported from Waldsassen, Germany. The piece is composed of 19 panels and spans the entrance at approximately 14 feet by 16 feet. The imagery features hand-drawn international sports symbols representing various activities at the center. The Glendale Arts Commission released a nation- wide call to artists in the spring of 2005. Sixty-five applications were received. Mr. Huether’s design was approved by a selection panel, the Glendale Arts Commission and the City Council in the fall of 2005.
Regular Hours
The recreation and aquatics center is now open for regular hours.
Regular hours begin Sunday, Oct. 1, and are as follows:
- 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday – Friday
- 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday
- 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday
Recreational swim will be available as follows:
- 1 to 7:30 p.m, Saturday, Sept. 30
- noon to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1
- noon to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7
- noon to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8
- noon to 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9
The heated lap pool will be open year-round for fitness and swimming classes.
