No More Motorized Skateboards

Motorized skateboards no longer legal in the City of Glendale

After extensive public input from residents, the Glendale City Council has banned motorized skateboards on the city’s roadways, sidewalks, properties, and parks, with a fine of $150 per violation.

Upon passage of the ordinance, the city will implement an extensive educational program to notify residents of the ban, which includes news releases, communication through the city utility bills, information on the city’s cable station, Glendale 11, distribution of door hangers by patrol officers and via the city web page.

Safety Comes First

Glendale officials are concerned about the potential for accidents involving motorized skateboards and believe that the prohibition of motorized skateboards on city roadways will result in fewer complaints by Glendale citizens regarding safety concerns and noise in residential neighborhoods.

Last spring, the Glendale Police Department sought the public’s input on this issue. Nearly 500 residents responded, with 77.6 percent preferring a complete ban.

The ban will go into effect January 13, 2006 (30 days after its passage.)
