City of Glendale - Office of the Mayor - Programs

Glendale University
The city of Glendale offers unique and exciting opportunities to actively participate in all facets of our community life. One of those opportunities is Glendale University City Government “101”, a free education program open to residents over the age of 15 and Glendale business owners.
In 1996, Mayor Scruggs suggested that a program be created to build interest, understanding, trust, and confidence among our community members. Believing strongly that “knowledge is power” her goal was to take the ‘mystery’ out of government and increase access for residents and business owners. Over 800 people have graduated from Glendale University, many graduates have gone on to become more active in their neighborhoods and also as community leaders through service to non-profit organizations, appointment to municipal boards and commissions and election to the Glendale City Council.
Mayor Scruggs believes that citizen participation is the cornerstone of effective government and she strongly encourages anyone with a desire to become more involved in their community to apply for City Government “101.”
City Government 101 is a ten week course offered twice a year. Click Here for an schedule, application and more information about Glendale University.
