Mayor Elaine Scruggs Selected Vice Chair
Of Regional Public Transportation Authority
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Mayor Elaine Scruggs is the new vice chair of the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) board of directors.
Scruggs was selected to serve in her new position by the RPTA board of directors at its monthly meeting in January.
The RPTA was created in 1985 when Maricopa County voters approved a proposition to establish a one-half cent sales tax to fund freeway construction and develop and operate a regional transit system.
Today, the authority’s services include local, express and rapid commuter bus service, neighborhood circulators, dial-a-ride, vanpool service and online carpool matching service.
The RPTA board of directors helps guide the authority in providing transportation solutions that best serve each of the member communities.
In addition to Glendale, RPTA member agencies include Avondale, Chandler, El Mirage, Gilbert, Goodyear, Maricopa County, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Surprise and Tempe.
Each member agency is represented on the board by an elected official from the respective agency. |
