Mayor Elaine Scruggs Receives Ray Of Hope Award

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs is the recipient of the West Valley Child Crisis Center’s Ray of Hope Award for her significant contributions to the success of the non-profit organization over the past 20 years.

The award was presented to Scruggs at the crisis center’s 20th birthday celebration event on October 14.

Among Scruggs’ many contributions to the West Valley Child Crisis Center was serving as a member of the organization’s capital campaign committee in 2001-02 that raised $3.3 million for the construction of a new three-acre Kids Campus.

Located in Glendale, the Kids Campus provides 48 beds for children, from birth to 11 years old, who have been removed from their home because of severe abuse or their parents are unable to care for them. The campus also features a medical facility, enrichment center and play areas.

Scruggs also helps the crisis center recruit volunteers and identifies new potential funding sources in order for the organization to sustain its current $3.5 million annual operating budget.

“Mayor Elaine Scruggs and the city of Glendale have been primary partners to our organization for many years,” said Brent Morris, executive director of the West Valley Child Crisis Center.

On behalf of all the little ones who have benefited from the commitment of Mayor Scruggs’ dedication to youth, we say ‘thank you’.”

Other Ray of Hope Award recipients this year are the Golden W.H.E.E.L. organization, John F. Long, Jerry and Vickie Moyes, Bill and Carol Raper, Preston McMurry/Theresa’s Fund and Soroptimist International of the Kachinas.
