GLENDALE, Ariz. – It is no secret that the family budget is getting stretched to the limit. Glendale Public Library has family fun that is both free and educational. The following evening activities are happening in August and September at the city’s three libraries.
Ahoy Matey!
Wednesday, October 15, 7-8:30 p.m., Foothills Branch Library
If you're thirsting for adventure, join us for a tale of pirates and adventure with Layne Gneiting. Then, put together your own ship in a bottle. All ages are invited to the storytelling; two person family teams (parent/child, grandparent/child, teen/younger sibling, etc.) are invited to a follow up activity, creating a ship in a bottle. It's NOT the Itsy Bitsy Spider! Hissing cockroaches, predatory beetles, giant millipedes. Creep yourself out and learn why a stink bug stinks and look out for the assassin bug. Is it a tree branch or a walking stick? Find out what else lurks in your own backyard. Arthropods galore at this event for the whole family. Children 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult. C.S.I. Foothills
Thursday, November 13, 7-8:30 p.m.. Foothills Branch Library
Arizona DPS Crime Lab will present info on crime scene investigation. Learn about latent prints, ballistics and drug analysis, with case examples. See if you have what it takes to decode the evidence and solve the case. Ages 8 and up are invited to the presentation; two person family teams (parent/child, grandparent/child, teen/younger sibling, etc.) are invited to the follow up activity, sifting through the evidence to solve the case.

Taiko Drumming - The Great Drum

Japanese Taiko Drumming is an ancient Japanese art form traditionally played in thousands of small communities and villages throughout Japan. Today Taiko is played at festivals and concert halls in celebration of the human spirit. Experience through this interactive presentation the joy of making music.
