Police Officer (Part Time)
SALARY: $24.03 - $32.89 per hour DOQ

NOTE: This is a part-time benefited position. Completed applications and forms are to be submitted at the test site on the day of the scheduled exam.
JOB ELEMENTS INCLUDE:
- Patrols assigned area of the City, by automobile, motorcycle, on foot or bicycle, for the prevention of crime and enforcement of all applicable criminal, traffic, and liquor laws and City Ordinances.
- Responds to calls for service involving crimes such as robberies, assaults, homicides, and narcotics violations.
- Responds to general public service calls for civil or societal problems.
- Secures the scene of a crime; makes arrests; books prisoners.
- Responds to hazardous materials incidents and traffic accidents; investigates traffic accidents; detects impaired drivers; administers first aid; directs traffic; and requests medical assistance.
- Prepares reports to accurately document information.
- Participates in problem oriented policing efforts by identifying problem areas, recommending and implementing solutions, and monitoring the results.
- Handles hostage negotiations; performs suicide prevention interventions; transports mentally ill patients; performs surveillance operations.
- Performs a variety of general and specialized criminal investigations involving property and persons crimes; gathers evidence; preserves crime scene; prepares cases for prosecution.
- Provides training on gang-related issues, firearms, defensive driving, defensive tactics, impact weapons, and other related police topics.
- Writes and executes search warrants.
- Serves court orders, arrest warrants, and mental health orders.
- Selects, directs, trains, and maintains canines.
- Appears in court as the States witness and delivers testimony.
- Provides police services at various special events in the City.
- Presents public relations programs such as DARE and GREAT to school age and adult groups; presents other programs and participates in community functions.
- Performs assigned personnel functions in the area of recruitment, training, and record keeping.
- Performs squad supervisory duties as required; maintains police supplies at stations.
- Performs specialty duties such as interpreting and peer counseling.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school education and completion of the Police Academy. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years of age. Valid Arizona Driver's/Motorcycle License. ACJIS Terminal Operators Certification. AZPOST Police Officer Certification. Must continuously meet all the requirements and standards of AZPOST.
SELECTION PROCESS: Applications will be screened for the minimum qualifications and special requirements. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and special requirements will be placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility lists are active for up to one year. Human Resources reserves the right to terminate or extend the life of an eligibility list at any time. The hiring department will contact those candidates they wish to test and/or interview. Falsifying or omitting information during any stage of the selection process, may make you ineligible for consideration or continued City employment.
PREFERENCE POINTS: If you are eligible for Employment Preference Points under Arizona Revised Statute 38-492, please complete an Employment Preference Point Form, available in Human Resources, and submit with your application.

- Attach a resume. Resume must include all assignments and respective supervisors' names from current and/or previous employment as an Arizona Peace Officer. The resume should also include information on all training received.
- Attach copies of your last two performance evaluations from your job as a Police Officer.
- Supply four personal reference letters
Once all these items listed above are completed, please contact one of our Background Investigators to set up your Background interview. Please note that two of the Waiver Forms require notarization. In-State Lateral officers are not required to take the written test and physical assessment test when they apply. Candidates who successfully complete the background interview will have their names placed on a list for this position. The Police Department may use all lists for Police Officer positions simultaneously. The Police Department is under no obligation to process or hire AZPOST certified candidates prior to recruit candidates.
Upon successful completion of the background interview process, candidates may be scheduled for a selection interview.
When selected to proceed in the process, candidates will be scheduled for a polygraph exam.
Upon completion of the polygraph exam, candidates may be selected for a psychological evaluation and medical examination after a conditional offer of hire is made.
