Library Public Services Assistant
Library Circulation Clerk - Main Library

SALARY: $12.16 - $19.46 Hourly DOQ

NOTEThis position is regular status, part-time at 20 hours per-week and includes part-time benefits.

JOB ELEMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Checks library materials in and out; evaluates condition of materials returned; sensitizes and desensitizes materials.
  • Issues, updates and maintains patron library cards using the automated library system; enters data in computer.
  • Verifies residency status and maintains records of library cardholders.
  • Explains and enforces library policies with patrons.
  • Collects and adjusts fines for overdue, lost or damaged materials; contacts patrons as necessary.
  • Responds to patrons in person or on the telephone regarding library information, library materials or services, and refers them to the appropriate sources of information. Also provides operator assistance for voice mail reverts.
  • Participates in the training of library pages and volunteer staff in work related to circulation.
  • Provides general and department specific information to the public and to city employees.
  • Searches library shelves and database for missing items.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school education and one year of customer service or library work experience. Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

SELECTION PROCESSApplications will be screened for the minimum qualifications and special requirements.  Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and special requirements will be placed on an eligibility list.  Eligibility lists are active for up to six months.  Human Resources reserves the right to terminate or extend the life of an eligibility list at any time.  The hiring department will contact those candidates they wish to test and/or interview.
