The New River & Grand Canal Multi-Use Pathway Project is part of the original Glendale Onboard Transportation Program (GO) developed in 2001, approved by voters later that year, and incorporated into the Program’s 25-year implementation program.
The Grand Canal pathway which will extend the existing Grand Canal Linear Park pathway from the Loop 101 to New River, and the New River pathway along the east bank of the river are currently in design and will become part of a larger system of off-street pathways. When complete, there will be over 47 miles of off-street paths looping through Peoria, Glendale, and Phoenix. The proposed alignments for the projects are provided below in the Pathway Concept Plan.
The New River Multi-Use Path (section A below) alignment will begin at Bethany Home Road/107th Ave and head north on the east side of New River under Glendale Avenue to Northern Avenue.
The Grand Canal Multi-Use Path (section B below) alignment will begin at Bethany Home Road/107th Avenue and head east on the south side of the Bethany Home Road Outfall Channel to just east of the Loop 101.
The multi-use paths will provide lighted, landscaped pathways for non-motorized users such as walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and equestrians.
Upon completion of design, the project will be scheduled for construction.
