DO YOU WANT TO BE A RESIDENT MEMBER OF THE BOARD?

As a participant in the Conventional Public Housing Program, it is important that public housing residents get involved with the administration, operation, and management of the programs.

Because your participation is important to the program, we invite you to serve as a resident board member on the City of Glendale’s Community Development Advisory Committee. As a member, you will be able to suggest ideas, offer opinions, and take part in the decision making about local policies, lease changes, how money is spent, and other matters relating to your public housing program.

The Community Development Advisory Committee is the advisory committee for Community Housing, the Community Action Program (CAP), and Community Revitalization. The committee is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council regarding the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to eligible area non-profit groups; advises City Council on policies related to the city’s Community Housing programs and the city’s Community Action Program (CAP); provides general advice on human services in Glendale as related to the administration of these programs.

If you apply and are appointed to the committee, you must be able to commit your time to attending the monthly evening meetings. The time commitment varies, but most meetings are at least once a month for several hours. Preparation for meetings and special meetings sometimes require an additional time commitment.

NEW! NOTICE TO ALL GLENDALE PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS
January 29, 2016
REVISED FLAT RENT SCHEDULE

Each year during the annual reexamination process, Public Housing residents have a choice of having their monthly rent calculated on their household income, or they can choose to pay a flat rent. Unlike income-based rents, flat rents do not fluctuate with changes in family income. Glendale Housing must establish public housing flat rents at no less than 80% of the current Fair Market Rent (FMR), as issued by HUD. HUD also dictates that the annual increase cannot exceed 35% of the existing flat rent amount.

For families choosing to pay a flat rent instead of income-based rent, this change will be effective at your next annual recertification.

In accordance with HUD program regulations, Glendale Community Housing has revised the Flat Rent schedule, which will become effective on MARCH 1, 2016.

*** This change will only affect you if you choose to pay flat rent instead of rent based on income.

Families who are currently paying rent based on income, and wish to change their payment method to Flat Rent, the new rent amount will take effect at your next annual reexamination. Glendale Community Housing will not place any family on a flat rent schedule at any time other than your annual reexamination, and only at your choice.

The Flat Rent schedule has been revised as follows:

One Bedroom
$588
Two Bedroom
$731
Three Bedroom
$1,065
Four Bedroom
$1,246

Please note that families that choose a flat rent will receive a utility allowance.

A copy of the flat rent worksheet is available upon request at the Glendale Community Housing Division main administrative office, 6842 North 61st Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you have any questions, please call Dave at (623) 930-3718 or AZ Relay TTY at 1-800-367-8939.

HUD has published a decrease in the Fair Market Rents (FMR) for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program to be effective later this year. In order to minimize the impact this will have on Section 8 assisted families, Glendale Community Housing has made the determination to increase its payment standard to 105% of the FMR.

GLENDALE COMMUNITY HOUSING IS LOOKING FOR SECTION 8 ASSISTED FAMILIES AND CONVENTIONAL PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS TO VOLUNTEER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE AGENCY PLAN PROCESS.
