Glendale, AZ - History Project

How much Glendale history do you know?  Try your hand at our online history game!

Glendale will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of its incorporation in 2010, while the state’s Centennial is coming February 14, 2012.

The Glendale History Online project was created to help both residents and researchers understand our heritage by bringing a photographic history of Glendale alive. Glendale Public Library partnered with Glendale Arizona Historical Society, Glendale Community College, Sahuaro Ranch Historic Area and Thunderbird School of Global Management to share their collective histories with you.

Future enhancements will include photos from our newest partner, Luke Air Force Base, and oral histories.

By clicking on the links below, you will be taken to our sites in the Arizona Memory Project, an online effort to provide access to a wealth of primary sources in Arizona libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions.

Listening to Glendale's Past
We all love to see old photos, but sometimes hearing the voices of the people in the photos really brings them to life. The second year of the Glendale History Online project is doing just that with a collection of oral histories available on the Arizona Memory Project. Listening to Glendale’s Past was a joint effort of six organizations: Glendale Community College, Glendale Arizona Historical Society, Glendale Public Library, Luke Air Force Base, Sahuaro Ranch Park Historic Area and Thunderbird School of Global Management. Listening to Glendale’s Past is funded, in part, through a grant from the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records Agency under the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), which is administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
