Glendale 11 Earns Emmy Award for Super Bowl Coverage
Glendale 11 was the only city government station in the Valley to pick up the distinguished Emmy, which was given by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences this past weekend. This marks the first time Glendale 11 has won an Emmy.
The station earned this prestigious award in the Politics/Government Program category for “Glendale’s Got Game,” a compilation of three Glendale 11 shows that featured the city’s preparations for Super Bowl XLII, as well as the week's events leading up to the big game and the city's activities on the day of the game. The TV shows were created and produced by Glendale 11's team of eight city employees who documented the city's Super Bowl work nearly round the clock and more than a year in advance of the game.
The Emmy Awards are part of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), which recognizes and rewards excellence in broadcasting throughout the country. In the region that Glendale 11 competes in, there were close to 900 entries from five Western states. Glendale is one of only two government TV stations in the region to win an Emmy this year.
“Glendale 11 is not your typical government TV station, as evidenced by this Emmy award,” said Julie Frisoni, Glendale assistant deputy city manager. “We’ve worked hard to drive our programming to the next level, providing our residents excellent, timely coverage that is comparable to mainstream media, and this honor is affirmation of achieving that goal.”
The new Emmy Award for Glendale 11 marks the second time in a matter of weeks that the city owned TV station has been recognized on a national level. In September, Glendale 11 received eleven NATOA awards. NATOA, the National Association of Telecommunication Officers & Advisors, recognizes the very best in government television nationwide.
Glendale 11 airs on Cox and Qwest Channel 11, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For a complete viewer’s guide, click here.
