From the Heart puts your donation to work every day to make life better for countless Glendale residents. Whether serving meals to the elderly, giving emergency help to homeless families or supporting abused children, From the Heart gives agencies that provide services to our neighbors a helping hand. To allow your dollars to go further, the BHHS Legacy Foundation matches every dollar donated to From the Heart by 50 percent.

Thanks to generous donations from our community and the BHHS Legacy Foundation match, From the Heart awarded $179,000 to 18 non-profit social service agencies during the 2007-08 cycle (*the money awarded in June 2008 was collected in the 2007 calendar year). Making a From the Heart donation is easy. You can make a donation in any amount right now through our online donation form by clicking here. Glendale utility customers can add $1 to their monthly utility bill payments. If you don't receive a utility bill, or you want to donate more than $1 per month, you can mail or bring a check or money order made out to From the Heart in any dollar amount to:

Remember, a donation of $20, when matched by the BHHS Legacy Foundation, grows to $30 and will help kids succeed, assist families to meet unforeseen hardships, care for the elderly and support people with special needs. Because administering From the Heart is an all-volunteer effort, 100 percent of all contributions go directly to providing essential human services to our most vulnerable residents.

How to Apply to From the Heart

From The Heart’s mission is to promote the positive development of youth, strengthen the capabilities of families and assist residents in addressing crisis needs by supplementing the resources of existing community agencies. The program cannot provide grants to individuals.

In order to be eligible for funding, social service agencies must be non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that serve Glendale residents. Agencies must also be in operation for at least one year prior to applying for grant funds and provide a current IRS status letter. Grants range from $2,500 to $20,000. From The Heart funds are collected in the year prior to the one in which they are distributed.

Social service agencies interested in applying to From The Heart must fill out a From The Heart application. The annual application appears on the site each December. A 'How to File an Application' workshop is offered to community agencies each January.

How From the Heart Works

From the Heart is a unique partnership of Glendale residents, the city of Glendale, the BHHS Legacy Foundation, the Quality of Life Community Services, Inc. (formerly the Glendale Human Services Council) and local community agencies. Since the program began in 1997, more than $1.5 million has been collected and distributed to social service agencies. Every From the Heart dollar stays right here in our community to support social service agencies that serve Glendale residents.

About 13 percent of Glendale utility customers already add a $1 From the Heart contribution to their monthly city utility bill payments. Surepay customers also contribute to the program. Others make their donations by mailing or bringing a check or money order in any amount made out to From the Heart to the City of Glendale’s Customer Service Office on the first floor of the City Hall Complex located at 5850 West Glendale Avenue, Glendale, Arizona 85301. The BHHS Legacy Matching Program

Each year BHHS Legacy sets aside $75,000 in matching funds for From the Heart. In the 2007-08 award cycle, the match was $59,611. From the Heart’s goal is to make 2008-09 our very best year and the first year in which our check from the BHHS Legacy Foundation will be the full $75,000!

Our largest personal contribution of $1,000 came from a Glendale resident who heard about the program and thought it deserved her support. Her donation increased by 50 percent to $1,500 with BHHS Legacy's match. A Phoenix resident contributed $500 to From the Heart knowing it would increase to $750 with the match.
