WEEKEND RECREATION SWIM Begins May 10, 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Memorial Day hours will be 12 to 6 p.m. Weekday summer recreation swim hours will begin June 2. The 2008 Splashbook, featuring all the classes and aquatics programs for the summer, is now available! CLICK HERE to download the Splashbook (pdf). The Splashbook in print will be available in April at Glendale Public Libraries, the Parks & Recreation office, Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center and by mail by calling 623-930-2840. (This is a Recreation Pass activity) : Individuals must be at least 13 years of age to participate without additional supervision. Individuals 10-12 years of age may participate when accompanied by a responsible individual at least 16 years of age. All individuals must be capable of swimming 25 yards continuously to qualify for lap swimming. Lap swimming is not open to those under 10. (The diving well is not available during lap swim)

The pool at the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center is heated (seasonally); however, it is not a therapeutic pool. Therapeutic pool temperatures can range from the mid 80's to the high 90's. The heated pool has a variety of user groups throughout the week. The temperature is maintained at a level to meet the needs of as many participants as possible.

Aquatics Information:

  • Under age 3 is free of charge for Recreation Swims. However, children under age 3 are still counted as part of the pool capacity.
  • Every individual on the pool deck, whether watching or swimming, is counted as part of the Maricopa Country regulated "maximum capacity" and is the responsibility of the lifeguard staff. Therefore, every individual is required to purchase an aquatic admission to be on the pool deck. A Foothills aquatic punch pass is only valid at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center. Punch passes are valid for one summer with NO refunds for unused portions.
  • Lap Swimming: Individuals must be at least 13 years of age to participate without additional supervision. Individuals 10-12 years of age may participate when accompanied by a responsible individual at least 16 years of age. All individuals must be capable of swimming 25 yards continuously to qualify for lap swimming. Lap swimming is not open to those under 10. (The diving well is not available during lap swim)
  • Recreation Swims: All youth 6 and under must have direct parent/guardian supervision at all times when using the aquatics center. The parent/guardian must be in the water if the child is in the water, and must be within reach when on the pool deck. A wristband will be provided for patrons in this category at the aquatic entrance. A responsible person, 14 or older, must accompany children 7-9 years of age, who remains on the pool deck at all times.Children 10 or older may utilize the pool area without additional supervision.

Pool Rules:

  • Pool rules for specialty areas are posted on the pool deck. Below is additional information.
  • Day use lockers are available for patrons. Individuals supply their own lock or, may purchase a lock for $3 at the Front Desk.
  • All participants must be respectful of the locker room space provided. Locker rooms are used by Foothills Pass Holders as well as aquatic users.
  • The City of Glendale is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal items brought to the Foothills Center.
  • Water socks are highly recommended for individuals using the Water Playground area.
  • Absolutely no alcoholic beverages or smoking allowed anywhere on the pool deck or in the facility.
  • Food may be consumed inside the designated concession stand area only. Personal food items, including coolers filled with food or drinks may NOT be brought into the aquatics area.
  • No glass containers of any kind allowed on the pool deck.
  • The pool deck is a "Gum Free Zone."
  • No floaties, rafts, or other personally purchased items allowed in the aquatics area. Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s) are provided for use at the Lazy River.
  • Participants under 42” tall may use the Lazy River while sitting on the lap of an individual 16 years of age or older.
  • Please do not bring any sick individuals into the aquatics area. This compromises the health and safety of all patrons. No swimmers with open sores, wounds, or infections will be allowed in the water.
  • No pets allowed in the facility or on the pool deck. (Official guide dogs are an exception to this rule.)
  • Foothills provided deck chairs are available on a first come, first serve basis. Personal deck chairs may not be brought into the facility. All deck chairs must remain in the general pool deck areas and may not be taken into the fenced rental area.
  • There are 2 Family Changing rooms available for use during all open aquatic hours. If you have a young child that you are not comfortable sending into a gender specific locker room alone, the Family Changing rooms allow you the added comfort to remain with your child.
  • “Swim diapers” are required for any children who regularly wear a diaper. Swim diapers are available for sale at the Front Desk.
  • The Foothills lifeguard staff directly controls emergency evacuation plans. Any individuals on the pool deck will follow directions given by the Foothills staff in the event of an emergency.
  • The Foothills Code of Conduct applies equally to the facility and the aquatics area.
