The annual camp draws a burn survivor between the ages of 13 and 15, along with a professional firefighter-counselor from each of more than 40 regional burn camps throughout the United States and Canada.
Firefighter Webb became a burn victim in 1990 when he was 13 years old as result of playing with fire. He was soon introduced to the Arizona Children’s Burn Camp or “Camp Courage,” a camp for young burn survivors here in the state of Arizona, sponsored by the Foundation for Burns and Trauma.

“Being selected as a counselor is an honor and I’m thankful that I can use my experience to hopefully prevent another accident like I went through,” said Jason Webb, Glendale Firefighter/Paramedic. “Jason Webb is a great firefighter and even a better person,” said John Holland, Glendale Fire Captain and Chapter Vice President, Local 493. “The job of firefighter is looked at by many as a reactive industry, but Jason is an excellent example of just how proactive the men and women of the Glendale Fire Department are and he certainly is making a difference in the community on and off duty,” Captain Holland continued.
The chosen individuals are brought to Washington, D.C. for a once-in-a-lifetime trip where they tour the monuments, memorials, and museums; visit the White House and the Capitol; meet national leaders; and spend time with local fire fighters.
