Glendale Fire Engineer Retires After 29 Years Of Service
GLENDALE, AZ. – After serving 29 years of public service with the Glendale Fire Department, Fire Engineer Dain Jeffrey, called it a “career” by celebrating his retirement on November 1, 2007. Glendale Fire Chief Mark Burdick, along with many past and present Glendale firefighters, family and friends, honored Engineer Jeffrey at Fire Station 155 in North Glendale.
Fire Chief Burdick recalled being a new firefighter and working on Jeffrey’s truck 25 years ago. “He is truly one of the most positive people I have ever met,” Chief Burdick said. “I knew when I would come to work, I would laugh from the beginning of my shift to the end of my shift 24 hours later,” Burdick added.
Firefighter Joe Hester, who has been with the Glendale Fire Department for 3 years, also shared comments. “Chief Burdick spoke to what it was like as a new firefighter working with Dain years ago,” Firefighter Hester continued. “I had the privilege to work with Dain over the last year and a half of his career and I can say that he still has an incredible outlook on life and great sense of humor,” Hester added.
Battalion Chief Bill McGonigle, who served as Jeffrey’s Fire Captain for 20 years, spoke of many the memories shared between the two of them and their families. “Dain will be greatly missed,” McGonigle said. Deputy Chief Wayne Smith claims to have no older or better friend than Dain Jeffrey. Both Smith and Jeffrey and their families will continue to vacation together.
“It was an honor to work along side of the best firefighters in the valley,” said Engineer Jeffrey. I thank you all for allowing me to be a part of your family,” he added.
The Glendale Fire Department congratulates you, Engineer Jeffrey, on your retirement, and thanks you for your professionalism, leadership, and most of all, your friendship. We will miss you!
