A pan left on the stove ignited items on a shelf above.  The occupant left the kitchen for only a moment and called 9-1-1 immediately after discovering the fire.  Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires in the U.S. When cooking for holiday visitors, remember to keep an eye on the range.
