Volunteer Position Description
Position Title: Cataloging Volunteer, Main Library
Responsible To: Cataloging Librarian and, if applicable, City of Glendale staff.
Job Summary: Duties will be assigned based on skill level of the volunteer but may include: helping with cataloging retro projects, pulling library materials from holds and retro lists, bar-coding library materials, shifting books on shelves and database cleanup working from reports provided by the Cataloging Supervisor.
Essential Functions: Helps Cataloging staff in Technical Services with cataloging workflow.
Time Required: Days and time volunteered are dependent on the needs of the library and availability of the volunteer. Shifts are generally 3-4 hours in length, once a week.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: A background in library service is preferred with knowledge of the Dewey decimal system and Horizon databases a plus.
Working Conditions :Range from performing work at a PC work station in an office setting to pulling books from the stacks and pushing them on a cart to the back room.
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to interact pleasantly with public, cooperate with staff, work independently with attention to detail and accuracy is necessary. Position requires squatting and reaching to pull books from shelves. Must be 18 years and older.
