Glendale Adult Center - Classes and Programs 

Classes

  • AARP Driver Safety Program
    1 - 5 p.m., First Tuesday and Wednesday of the month
    $10 (pay at first class)
    Please bring paper, pen and driver's license to class. Register by calling 623-930-4321.

  • COMPUTER CLASSES
    The center offers basic introductory computer classes and open computer lab time. Instructors:  Eva and Paul Banovic. Held in Room 100. These classes are offered based upon interest level.  A minimum of 5 people must register for the class to be held. Call Katherine at 623-930-4333 to sign up as soon as possible.
    • Basic Hands-On Computer Classes
      9 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 3 p.m., Thursdays, and 10 a.m. - noon, Saturdays • $5 per class
      A great way to get comfortable with using computers.  Review basic concepts.  Team-tutored classes use workbooks to review the components and operation of computers including using a mouse, word processing techniques and more!  Limited to 15 people.

  • Faceting
    1 - 4 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays
    $25 for class or $3 per hour lab time
    Learn the basics of precision cutting/grinding of gems and precious stones. See Peter or Larry in the Lapidary workshop.

  • Ceramics & Porcelain
    9 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays
    For those wanting to learn or practice techniques.  FREE.  Small fee for firing.  You purchase your own supplies.

Programs

  • serving lunch Lunch Program
    Noon, Monday-Friday
    Nutritious lunches available. For participants ages 60 and older, recommended contribution is $2; a charge of $3 for people under 60.  Menus available.  (623) 930-4321. This meal program is a collaboration funded by the YWCA of Maricopa County, Glendale Adult Center, Glendale Community Development Block Grant, the Area Agency on Aging, Region One and United Way.

  • Grandma’s House
    Intergenerational Program
    Grandmas and Grandpas are needed to share a couple of hours and have lunch with a child.  Be rewarded many times over! Will resume in September.
    Call 623-930-4321 for information. Must be a member of the Center.

  • GIFTS PLUS SHOP
    8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday
    Consignment shop for creators.
    Bring in your crafts or purchase some of the beautiful items made by others. Must be a member of the center to place items in shop.

  • Open Computer Lab
    Free use of equipment.  Practice computer basics.  Tutor assisted.  No sign up required.  First-come, first-served.  Limited to 16 people.  Musthave basic computer skills. Held 9 a.m. to noon, Fridays, in Room 100.

  • Art All Around Us
    1 - 2 p.m., 2nd Tuesday of the month.  FREE
    Explore the world of art! Docents from the Phoenix Art Museum will present a series of educational and entertaining slide talks.

  • SATURDAYS AT THE CENTER & SUPER SATURDAY NIGHTS
    All these programs are available!
    Fitness Center: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 7 - 9:30 p.m.
    Billiards: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 7 - 9:30 p.m.
    Video Exercise: 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
    Dart Baseball:  7 - 9:30 p.m.


    Saturday Night Dances
    $3  • Refreshments
    Dance to all your favorites! Live or DJ music. 
    Ballroom Dance held on the first and fifth (if applicable) Saturday of the month
    Country Dance held on the second and third Saturdays of the month. Country Western and variety held on the fourth Saturday of the month.
