Reserve Officer
The City of Glendale is actively seeking qualified men and women for the position of Reserve Officer. If you possess the highest level of integrity and honesty, take pride in your community and have a commitment to both excellence and service, you are encouraged to apply.
The Glendale Police Department’s Reserve Division is comprised of Arizona residents who volunteer their time performing general law enforcement functions for the citizens of Glendale. Officers come from a broad professional background, yet share a common interest in police work and volunteerism.
Interested citizens must complete a standard employment application through the city’s Human Resources Department. The testing process and general qualifications are the same for all sworn positions, whether full-time or volunteer. Successful applicants will attend more than 650 hours of classes at an AzPOST law enforcement training academy, unless they hold a current peace officer’s certificate from AzPOST.
Upon graduation from the academy, officers begin a two-year field training program leading to advancement to solo-officer/car-commander status. Officers, whether full-time or volunteer, are required to maintain specific in-service training standards designed to keep them abreast of the latest trends in law and enforcement techniques, and other professional proficiencies.
Reserve officers are required to work no less than sixteen hours per month, as averaged each quarter, to meet minimum AzPOST requirements. Most officers volunteer an average of 24-40 hours per month, working uniformed patrol, Criminal Investigations Bureau or special-assignment tasks for the department based on aptitude and skills.
