Police Seek “Person of Interest” in a Recent Homicide
GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Glendale Police Department is looking for a subject who was identified as being involved in a recent murder. The subject is Frederick Welch, a 19 year-old black male. He sometimes spells his name as “Freddrick.” He also goes by “Freddy” and the nickname “Freaky.”
On August 29th, two subjects went to the apartment of Antwan Pierce (b/m 29 years of age), located in the 6800 block of north 67th Avenue. An argument took place between Pierce and the two subjects. One of the subjects produced a gun and shot Pierce, killing him. Witnesses identified Freddy Welch as being one of the two subjects at Pierce’s door.
Investigators are not certain of the motive for this crime, though the argument appeared to have been about money. They do know that Welch and Pierce knew each other, and that this was not a random incident. Detective Roger Geisler would like to interview Welch to determine his involvement in the crime. “We know Welch was there, but there are two sides to every story,” Geisler said. “I’d like to hear Welch’s side of it.” Geisler believes Welch is still in the greater Phoenix area.
Freddy Welch is a 19 year-old black male. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. His hair was worn in a “dreadlock” style, but he may have cut or altered it. A photo of Welch is to the right.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
