The Glendale Police Department offers the following tips to help keep our kids safe and out of harm's way. For a complete list and a flyer with more details, click here to download now.
Always check first! Always check with a parent or guardian BEFORE you go anywhere with anyone. If you can’t check first, then the answer is NO!
Acknowledge a knock at the door vocally without answering a door. Many criminals seek an easy opportunity to commit a crime. Acknowledging the knocker indicates someone is home and may prevent you from becoming a victim of a crime.
Be prepared! Role play and go through scenarios; play the “what if” game with children to get them and keep them thinking about ways to work through potential problems/hazards. If you are prepared, you are more likely to have a plan of action instead of just “reacting.”
Give children the right to say no to an adult if they are uncomfortable or being asked to do something that goes against what they believe to be “okay.”
