The long-awaited Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center, located at 5600 W. Union Hills Dr., is targeted for a late summer opening. The facility will offer plenty of social and fitness activities for families and people of all ages.
A Look at the Amenities
The 69,800-square-foot recreation center will include a gymnasium with indoor elevated running/walking track, three racquetball courts, a rock-climbing wall, game and billiards area, as well as exercise and weight room facilities. The 5,400-square-foot fitness room will be equipped with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and exercise equipment.
In addition to the fitness amenities, the center will feature multiple arts and crafts classrooms, a culinary arts kitchen, public meeting/classrooms and a multi-purpose room, which includes a kitchen. The center will offer a variety of special interest classes.
The outdoor aquatics facility will be used for both recreational and competitive purposes. The amenities include a competitive lap pool, diving well, lazy river, zero-depth leisure pool with play features and two water slides.
The 18-foot-high speed slide and a second slide with loads of twists and turns, plus an aquatic playground, promise to provide hours of cool fun.
A young children’s room will be available to keep your little ones busy and supervised while working out, swimming laps or participating in a special interest or fitness class.
Hours and Info
The recreation center will operate Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The aquatics center hours will be announced as the opening draws closer.
Facility rates are available online at www.glendaleaz.com/parksandrecreation. Family or individual passes are available; however, a pass is not required to participate in activities such as rock-climbing, swimming, special interest classes and more.

More Cool Pool News
The Glendale Parks and Recreation Department has new-and-improved customer service options for pre-registration for the swim team, dive team or the Junior Lifeguard program, as well as pre-purchase of punch passes for the seven pool locations.
In the past, punch passes for Glendale pools were only available by purchase at the pools once the facilities opened for the season. Now, residents can purchase a 15- or 30-punch pass through the Parks and Recreation office, or by telephone. If you purchase your punch pass over the phone, you must pay with Visa, Mastercard or American Express, and the pass can be sent to you through the mail.
As a result of this new service, residents can avoid waiting in line at the pool during the sweltering summer months.
In addition, Glendale residents can pre-register over the phone or in person at the Parks and Recreation office for the swim team, dive team or the Junior Lifeguard program. If you did not request to receive the Parks and Recreation Quarterly Magazine through the mail, you can obtain CLASS codes needed for registration via the Web site at www.glendaleaz.com/parksandrecreation, by clicking on the Sports and Aquatics link or pick up a Summer Pool schedule at any Glendale Library.
