City leaders join representatives from RHW Hotels and Citation Land Company to celebrate the groundbreaking of two new hotels in Glendale’s Sports and Entertainment District
Glendale city officials joined executives with RHW Hotels and Citation Land Company as well as other local business and development leaders Wednesday, Oct. 4, for an official groundbreaking ceremony. The event kicked off the building of two future hotels that are planned just north of the new state-of-the-art stadium and the Cabela’s outdoor megastore.

RHW Hotels, a hotel development and management company based in Overland Park, Kan., plans to build a 126-suite Residence Inn by Marriott and a 120-suite Springhill Suites by Marriot in the Zanjero master-planned development. The hotels are expected to open in the third quarter of 2007 and will fill a strong need for upscale select service hotels in the sports and entertainment district.
“It is nice to know that today those lucky enough to get tickets to the Super Bowl or the upcoming Fiesta Bowl will have a nearby hotel they can stay in also,” Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs said during Wednesday’s ceremony.
“We have so many people visiting our city, and these hotels couldn’t come soon enough,” Mayor Scruggs said.
The hotels are just two of several exciting development projects rising from the earth in the city’s sports and entertainment district. The Zanjero and Westgate developments boast a plentiful mix of residential, retail, restaurant and office projects. The region also happens to be home to the award-winning Jobing.com Arena, which has been heralded by headline performers like U2, Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney and named best new major concert venue by Pollstar magazine, a major concert industry publication.
