Glendale to add new pro shop and concession area to Foothills Skate Park

What do you do when you’re at the skate park and your skateboard wheel breaks? The fun’s over and you have to head home, right? Not anymore! Glendale is working to add a pro-shop and concession area to the Foothills Park and Skate Court, 57th Avenue and Union Hills Drive, which means skaters will soon be able fill their repair, shopping and re-fueling needs just steps away from all the action.

The Details

The Glendale City Council has approved an agreement with a vendor to provide retail sales, equipment rental and repair, as well as concessions that are expected to be available by the end of 2006. Pro shop and concession hours have yet to be determined but will vary based on the season.

The sale of food and non-alcoholic refreshments, and the sale, rental and repair of skateboarding and in-line skating equipment will be a welcome addition to the extremely popular park. The vendor will also work with the Parks and Recreation Department to offer classes and promote programs that are held in the Skate Court, which include events like the Union Hills Classic skateboarding competition, which drew nearly 1,000 people this year.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with this professional organization that specializes in working with cities who operate skate park facilities,” said Parks and Recreation Director Becky Benná.
