Glendale’s newest park boasts unique amenities
The city of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department recently unveiled a new park filled with unique amenities for Glendale residents to enjoy.
To the Dogs
The 12-acre Northern Horizon Park, located on the southwest corner of 63rd and Northern avenues, offers an opportunity for dogs to play off leash in a special dog park area.
This dog park has two unique features:
- An area made for small dogs fenced off from the larger dog park
- Water fountains and waste stations so dog owners can give their pets a healthier lifestyle
Bike Safety and More
Another unique feature is a bicycle safety component. There are five bicycle safety stations offering a self-paced bicycle safety clinic featuring safety inspections and rules of the road. Many of these features are interactive and provide valuable information for safe bike riding.
Other information includes bike maintenance and helmet fitting. The main focus of the bicycle safety clinic is for young cyclists, from kindergarten age to 14, but everyone who goes through the clinic benefits.
Other aspects of the park include a public safety-themed playground area, three covered picnic ramadas, hundreds of trees and nearly 1,000 shrubs, an open turf area and a parking lot.
About the Park
This park was financed in part by a grant from the Local, Regional and State Heritage Fund, which is funded by the Arizona Lottery and administered by the Arizona State Parks Board. Additional partners in this project included the Flook Control District of Maricopa County, Glendale Civic Pride Ambassadors and the city of Glendale Transportation Department.
