Cabela’s Is Here!

Cabela’s Is Here!

Hundreds gather to celebrate as the super outdoor sporting mega-store opens its doors in Glendale for the first time

Arizona’s outdoor enthusiasts have a new playground in Glendale, Ariz. as Cabela’s Incorporated, the World’s Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, opened its doors Thursday, July 27, for its official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 160,000-square-foot retail store, located at 9380 W. Glendale Avenue in the Zanjero Business Park near University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. , officially opens to shoppers on Friday, July 28.

More than 3 million people are expected to visit the Glendale store annually, making it one of the largest tourist attractions in the state. The average length of stay for a customer has been clocked at more than 3 hours, with half of the visitors coming from more than 100 miles away.

About the Glendale Store

The Glendale superstore was built on 28.6 acres, and the store’s rich design showcases Cabela’s trademark style, evoking a feeling of the outdoors. More than 400 animals in extensive museum-quality dioramas are displayed in recreations of their native habitats. Also part of the store’s list of educational and entertainment attractions is the hallmark two-story Conservation Mountain, complete with running waterfalls, a stream, trout pond and wild game displays.

Visitors will also wonder at the stores massive 40,000-gallon, walk-through aquarium, which is stocked with freshwater fish, including those native to the region. The store’s 8,000-square-foot wildlife museum with an extensive collection of trophy mounts will also get outdoor enthusiasts talking.

Other highlights include a boat showroom, maintenance shop, laser arcade, furniture department and general store. The Glendale store is similar in size to the Cabela’s retail stores in Owatonna, Minn., and Wheeling, W.Va.

More to Come

The Cabela’s opening is just one of many exciting projects happening in the city’s sports and entertainment district. In August, the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. will welcome fans for the first time as the NFL season kicks off. The Stadium is also the new home of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, BCS Championship and 2008 Super Bowl. Other exciting projects happening in the area include the development of upscale, urban dwellings, a high-end John Q. Hammons boutique hotel and state-of-the-art media center.
