2006 water and sewer rate adjustment hearing set
The city of Glendale is hosting a public hearing to discuss the water and sewer rate adjustments planned for October 2006. The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 13 at a Glendale council meeting.
Rate Information
The rate changes equate to an additional 22 cents a day or just $6.57 more a month. The adjustment will help fund the replacement cost of critical infrastructure. These include the replacement of aging water and wastewater lines; improvements to existing water and wastewater treatment plants and other associated facilities; security enhancements and continuous attention to increased public health and environmental standards.
All of these projects have seen dramatic increases in construction costs, consistent with the current local and national construction trends.
In comparison to other Valley cities, Glendale rates will continue to fall in the middle range.
Current Projects
Glendale is currently working on these projects to ensure safe, reliable water that meets the community’s growing water demand:
- Construction of Oasis Water campus and the expansion of Pyramid Peak Water Treatment plant
- Replacing pipes in the water distribution system, which will minimize water leaks
- Replacing pipes in the sewer collection system, which will minimize sewer spills
- Responding to sewer odor complaints by constructing sewer/odor control stations
- Improving security at water and wastewater treatment facilities
Meeting Details
The meeting will be held at City Hall, 5850 W. Glendale Ave. For more information on the 2006 rate adjustment, call (623) 930-2700. |
