Cool entertainment in Glendale this summer Lookin’ for a good way to beat the heat in the coming months? Glendale has a few places and programs you might want to check out.
First stop, Jobing.com Arena.
Show stopping concerts abound this summer season, and now Jobing.com Arena goers have a chance to receive online information and special offers for Arena events thanks to a new virtual All Access Club. The just-launched service aims to keep people in the loop on upcoming shows, offers and contests. And, best of all, anyone who joins prior to June 1 will be automatically entered to win a pair of tickets to their choice of one of two sold out June shows—Madonna on June 8 or Kenny Chesney on June 15 (certain restrictions apply). Ready, set, read.
Glendale Public Library is offering a reading program for every member of the family, from babes in arms to seniors. Beginning May 30, materials for the free programs can be picked up at Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.; Foothills Branch Library, 19055 N. 57th Ave., and Velma Teague Branch Library, 7010 N. 58th Ave. The reading-incentive programs end on July 29 for children and teens, and on July 30 for adults. To find out the dates and times for all the programs, pick up the summer reading and program schedules at any Glendale library or go to www.glendaleaz.com/library and click on “Library Programs and Events.” Summer tunes.
Murphy Park fills with music this summer as more than 100 musicians serve up musical renditions of marches, ballads and show tunes. The entire family is welcome to enjoy the sounds beginning at 8 p.m. every Thursday, June 1 - July 20, at the Glendale Amphitheater in Historic Downtown Glendale, 5850 W. Glendale Avenue. The performances are free and refreshments will be available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. For more information, call the Glendale Parks and Recreation Department at (623) 930-2820.
