Summer Is Coming Up Roses

Summer Is Coming Up Roses

The newly redesigned and updated Rose Lane Aquatics Center makes its splashing debut May 20, 2006

The city of Glendale will hold a grand opening for the newly redesigned and expanded Rose Lane Aquatics Center, 5033 W. Marlette Ave., on May 20 at 1 p.m. Residents are invited to come out and take a sneak peak at the exciting facility and test out its waters.

Blending Old and New

Originally built and dedicated in 1966, this event will mark the facility’s 40th anniversary. The original pool is still intact and remains part of the many amenities the aquatics center offers.

The new features include a splash pad; a 22-foot high, 150-foot long water slide; dive tank; a six-lane pool; interactive water playground; beach entry leisure pool; family changing rooms; circular swim channel; in-pool misted seating and shaded amphitheatre seating.

Opening Ceremony and Early Tours

Following the grand opening ceremony, the public will be invited to play and swim free of charge until 8 p.m. Prior to the grand opening, the public will have the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the new aquatics center at one of two open houses on May 17 and 18, from 5-8 p.m. The center will not be open for swimming during the open houses, but these events offer tours of the facility, water safety information and registration for swim lessons and other aquatics programs.

Hours and Info

Rose Lane Aquatics Center will also be open from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, for swimming with paid admission. Regular recreation swim hours, beginning June 8, are Monday-Saturday 1-8 p.m. and Sundays & holidays, 1-6 p.m.
